30

Hometown:
Wessington Springs, South Dakota

Associations belonging to:
PWBR, WPRA, SDRA, SDBRA, NBHA, & BFA.

Occupation:  Rancher.  Raise beef cattle, hay, and quarter horses.

Favorite Mount:  It changes from day to day (laughing) and I have had a lot of nice horses.  But right now Lena May is my favorite mount.

Hobbies/Interests: Breeding, raising and training barrel horses, cattle, and I like to go watch my husband (Brett Borkowski) do his cowboy mounted shooting matches.  It looked like so much fun, I tried mounted shooting myself.....I stunk at it!  I just like to watch him now.

Favorite Movies/Books:  Hmmmm.......my favorite book is the Heritage Place Sale Catalog :)  and I don't really watch much TV or go to movies, but I like most all of the classic Disney "kiddie" movies.

Achievements:

  • 1992-1995 SDHSRA Finals Qualifier in Barrel Racing & Pole Bending
  • 1995-1997 member of the Eastern Wyoming College Rodeo Team, ended up 5th in the NIRA Central Rocky Mtn. Region barrel racing standings in 1997.
  • 2005 Badlands Circuit WPRA Top 15 on Frostman San Peppy
  • 2005 SDRA Top 20 in barrel racing standings (only competed at 4 rodeos)
  • 2004 Reserve Champion Nebraska Open Barrel Derby on Frostman San Peppy
  • 2004 Badlands Circuit PRCA Finals Qualifier on Frostman San Peppy
  • 2004 SDRA Finalist, Barrel Racing  on Frostman San Peppy & No Big Secret
  • Reserve Champion 2003 Nebraska Open Maturity on Frostman San Peppy
  • 2003 South Dakota NBHA Finals 1D Champion on Mr. Corvette Jet.
  • 2001 SDBRA State Finals Open 1D Champion on Magnolia Maudie.
  • 2007 MN Lakes Barrel Futurity Reserve Champion on Lena May
  • 2007 Midwest Futurity Finale Champion on Lena May
  • 2007 Midwest Futurity Finale Reserve Champion on JK Copper Tia Treat.

Most Memorable Event/Run:  Well, I would have to say that my most memorable event would have to be this year's Midwest Futurity Finale.......I knew I had some nice runs but was not paying attention to anyone else's runs or times.  I had no idea I had won it PLUS was second in the average on my other horse, until they announced it.  I was shocked because I have been close to winning a futurity before, but it has never actually happened until now!

Goals:  I am going to try to season Lena at some rodeos this year, and I have two nice young horses of my own for the '08 futurities that I will start hauling this winter.  My goal is to win some money at some rodeos and do well on my 2008 futurity horses.

Words of Wisdom:  I am a believer that luck is when preperation and opportunity cross paths.  If you work really hard, and believe in yourself and your horses, you will go as far as you let yourself!

Schimke Ranch's Firewater Finale is nominated to the 2008 JJ Classic Breeder's Incentive and is taking part in the stallion service auction. << More info
