Casey Lorenz broke her pelvis in four places last night when riding at Spring Grove.  She was running a pattern on a young horse and it slipped.  She stepped off but her one foot was caught in the stirrup as the horse got up and drug her and stepped on her.  Good thing Shawn was there.  She's at Gunderson Lutheran in LaCrosse for a couple of days.  Sounds like she'll be on bed rest and therapy for 6 weeks or more.

Happy Holidays!

I thought I would pass on something that happened at our house on Sunday night.
Fortunately for us it ended well, but it could have been very sad.

Sunday night, Jan 13, between 5:30 pm and Monday morning at 5:00am, someone walked
on our property, opened our gate and stole one of our horses. Unfortunately, we
had one of our sliding barn doors unlocked, so he went in, took a pair of split
reins we had hanging and led our horse out our driveway and down the road. We
suspect he tried to get on and ride as some point and fortunately for us, he picked
our most hot headed, unreasonable horse whom none of us would dare ride bareback
let along with a halter and reins. He has no whoa and I'm sure gave the guy a ride
of his life. We think he probably was thrown or fell off at some point because a
mile or so down the road a "neighbor" found him in her front yard at 5:30 this
morning. She was able to catch him and came up our drive at about 8:30 wondering
if he was ours.

I called the Scott County Sherriff and filed a report.

It's been brought to our attention there is an add in the Star Tribune paper,
advertising horses of any size or discipline for cash. We believe he took this
horse because he is the largest of the four and would bring in the most money at
slaughter.

There are lot of things to speculate about here, but mainly, we want to get the
word out to as many as possible to be on alert. I think we are like many horse
owners whose horses are out at night, we use electric fence and our horses are
really in fairly unsecured areas. Our pasture is not connected to the road in any
way, you have to come up our drive and walk around the barn to get to the gate. We
typically don't leave flood lights on all night, but we do now. We have secured
our gate with a large chain and pad lock and any other access has been secured as
well as we can under short notice. I suspect we'll be looking at additional alarm
and security measures as soon as possible.

Fortunately, this ended well for us, but had he chosen any one of our other horses,
they would have gone willingly and he could have rode them right into a trailer
never to be seen again.

Feel free to pass this on to any of our club members, or edit as you see fit. We
just want people to be aware and keep and eye out.

Congratulations and a Big Thank You to everyone that helped and gave donations at our annual benefit. This year we raised money for Kristin Henton (she had gotten injuried this summer by her horse, she was kicked in the face and broke and shattered bones in her face, she will have a 2 year recovery with reconstructive surgery on her face).  The total money raised this year was $4,573 for Kristin Henton and $500 for the Cancer Society (we had an open jar for people to put money into, during the benefit day)!  For a Grand total of $5,073 dollars!!!!  THANK YOU everyone, we could not have done this benenfit without everyone pulling together!

Kudo's to the Barrel Racing Family for the Dave Loeffelholz Cancer Benefit:

Please send a HUGE Thank You to all of the barrel racers who participated in today's event.  Total proceeds for the fundraiser were $5,754.96!  Synovis, Sharon Loeffelholz's employer will be matching the funds for a total over $11,000.  The funds will go a long way towards helping the family cope with the costs of medical treatments and lost work.  The turnout from the barrel racers was simply outstanding!  Special thanks to Oasis Equestrian Center for donating their facility for the event.  Also thanks to Rob and Cathie Lunzer, Rich and Barb Hoogheem, Scooter and Bobbi Schuna, Cory Williams, Lauren Pierce and everyone else who helped with the concessions and silent auction.

Erin and Amber Hultman also want to thank the barrel racing community.... once again it shows how amazing the barrel racers are when it comes to helping others in need!  (Dave is their uncle and Amber's godfather).  For anyone who may wish to donate, a fund has been set up at the Security State Bank of Marine in Lindstrom.  Thank You!

Results coming soon!

Response to Dr Phil's comment on horse ownership as exercise:

At this time of year, after the holidays, ads for weight-loss programs Saturate print media and the airwaves. Even TV talk shows devote time to The battle of the bulge. I caught part of a Dr. Phil episode in which The prominent self-help guru was evaluating the situation of one Overweight guest. The woman commented that she'd like to buy a horse so She could get exercise via riding. "That's great for the horse,” Responded Dr. Phil drolly, "but what good is it for you?"

Obviously, Dr. Phil has missed out on the cardiovascular workout we women get Attempting to get into a sports bra and riding pants...<<<Click here to continue...

HORSE STOLEN IN BOGATA, TX - Please keep a look out. On the night of Nov 14, 06 my boyfriend's good calf horse was stolen from his pasture. He is a sorrel gelding about 15-1 hands. About a 1000 lbs. Has a star, strip, and snip. White roaning around his face and has a roman nose. He has a scar on his right hind leg and has rear sock. He is from Bogata, TX about 15 minutes from Clarksville and about 45 min from Mt Pleasant. If you or anyone you know can give us information on finding this horse, please email immediately @ tawneeshane@yahoo.com or call (817)458-1992.  There will be a $1000 reward for finding him.  He was definitely stolen, wires were cut to his pasture and neighbors pastures.  We have an idea who but have no proof. We think someone might be hiding him, but who knows where!!  Horse also has shoes on and feet are long.
